Zambo Sur mayor survives ambush, but aide killed

PAGADIAN CITY — An aide of Mayor James Yecyec of Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur, was killed while another was wounded after armed men ambushed their convoy of motorcycles on Wednesday night.

Yecyec, who was on a separate motorcycle, was unharmed in the 9 p.m. attack.

According to Police Capt. Junar Yap, Pitogo police chief, two men who were waiting for Yecyec near his house in Barangay Poblacion opened fire as the convoy approached.

Selverio Ediang was hit on his right arm while Margarito Yangyang had bullet wounds in different parts of his body. They were taken to a hospital in Pagadian City where Yangyang was pronounced dead. — (Leah Agonoy)
