Elderly Japanese dies of heart attack at NAIA-3
MANILA, Philippines — A 66-year-old Japanese national apparently died of heart attack at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport while waiting for his flight back to Osaka Sunday afternoon.
Airport authorities said Hosokawa Mitsuo was at the international departure lounge of the NAIA Terminal 3 around 2:52 p.m when he complained of numbness and chest pains.
Airline staff immediately informed the terminal’s medical personnel, who applied medical procedures on the passenger.
According to Dr. Ma. Carmen Kagaoan, a medical officer at the MIAA, Mitsuo was brought to the clinic “wheelchair borne, unconscious, very pale-looking, cold to touch, without appreciable vital signs.”
She said cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and IV (intravenous) access were immediately applied to the Japanese airline passenger.
“He was put on an Automated Emergency Defibrillator and a endotracheal intubation was done but to no avail. After the unsuccessful CPR, Mitsuo was pronounced dead at 3:37 p.m.,” she said in her report.
Airport Police, Human Quarantine and Terminal 3 Manager Engineer Bing Lina were informed of the Japanese’s death by the Cebu Pacific and the NAIA medical staff.
Likewise, Cebu Pacific’s Rowena Umali immediately contacted and informed the Japanese embassy of Mitsuo’s death.
The remains of Mitsuo were brought to the temporary morgue at the ramp medical building at the NAIA Terminal 1 at about 5:40 p.m.
