Southwest monsoon to bring rains, thunderstorms over PH

MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon is expected to bring scattered rains over parts of the country as it will affect central and southern Luzon on Tuesday.

Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon, the weather bureau said in its daily forecast.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers brought by the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

Pagasa warned that flash floods or landslides could occur due to scattered moderate with at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

As of 3 a.m., a low pressure area was located at 775 kilometers East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, outside of the Philippine area of responsibility.

Pagasa is monitoring an active tropical cyclone outside of PAR, which is Typhoon Maysak (formerly Julian) spotted at 785 km north northeast of extreme northern Luzon.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of 175 km per hour with gusts of up to 215 kph and moving north northwestward at 25 kph.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression is located at 2,415 km east of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

It is moving southwestward at 15 kph.

Moderate to strong winds will prevail over the northern and eastern sections of Luzon, Pagasa said, coupled with moderate to rough coastal conditions.

The Visayas and the rest of Luzon, meanwhile, will have light to moderate winds moving in the southwest direction and slight to moderate sea waters.

Light to moderate winds from southeast to southwest will likewise prevail over Mindanao, with slight to moderate coastal waters.
