Starting next week, Pasig residents will be required to wear face shields, apart from face masks, not only in public transport but also in workplaces and commercial establishments, to stop transmission of the contagious new coronavirus disease. In his Twitter account, Mayor Vico Sotto said on Saturday the city council had just passed an ordinance on the mandatory use of face shields outside households in line with the guidelines set by the interagency task force against the pandemic. This made Pasig the latest city in Metro Manila to require the use of face shields following a nationwide directive issued by the Department of Transportation on Aug. 3 requiring those using public transport to wear the protective gear. The other cities were San Juan and Pasay. Sotto, however, said that a face shield was not necessary when “driving, riding a bike or exercising.” —Krixia Subingsubing
