MANILA, Philippines — Three more employees of the House of Representatives have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) bringing the total number of infected at the lower chamber to 57.
On Saturday, House Secretary-General Jose Luis Montales told reporters that the first of the three new cases involved an employee assigned at the Transportation Service.
“The first is an employee assigned at the Transportation Service. He reported for work on Aug. 24 and 25,” Montales said in a statement.
The second case involved a Congressional staff member, who reported for work on Aug. 12 and Aug. 13, Montales noted.
Meanwhile, the third newly-infected employee is from the Reference and Research Bureau who last reported for work on July 29.
“He (Third employee) was exposed to his sister who, in turn, was a close contact of a confirmed case in her office,” Montales said.
As of Saturday, House has 13 active cases of the coronavirus disease.
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier reported 213,131 total confirmed cases of the respiratory disease, including 135,101 recoveries and 3,419 deaths.
