TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – At least 20 police officers in Eastern Visayas tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past days.
All were asymptomatic, said Lt. Colonel Ma. Bella Rentuaya, information officer of the Eastern Visayas police.
“They are all on isolation facilities provided by the local government units and are closely monitored by the regional headquarters,” she said.
At least four of them have recently recovered.
One of those who contracted the virus was a 31-year-old policewoman from Catarman town in Northern Samar who underwent schooling in Calamba, Laguna.
Based on the information provided by the Catarman Information Office, the policewoman arrived in Catarman last August 15 and was confined immediately at their quarantine facility as part of the protocol.
On August 22, she experienced the loss of taste and smell and was brought to the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital. She was swabbed and turned out positive for the virus.
On Friday, the Department of Health (DOH) registered 127 new COVID- 19 cases in Eastern Visayas, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 2,727.
