BACOLOD CITY – Police intercepted a 10-wheeler truck that was found to be carrying eight guns at the Danao Port in Barangay Old Poblacion, Escalante City, Negros Occidental at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Seven of the eight .45 caliber pistols were wrapped in plastic and newspapers and placed inside a box behind the driver’s seat, while the other pistol was recovered from the driver identified as Juanito Chua, said Maj. Gil John Despi, Escalante City police chief.
Chua told police that he was asked to transport the firearms from Cebu to Negros Occidental.
Despi raised the possibility that the delivery of essential goods from Cebu to Negros has been taken advantage of by gunrunners.
He said they were alerted by their counterparts in Cebu, prompting the local police, operatives of the Highway Patrol Group, and the Philippine Coast Guard to intercept the wing van truck at the designated control point.
