Samples from Jolo suicide bomber to undergo DNA test — police

MANILA, Philippines — The samples collected by authorities from the Jolo, Sulu suicide bomber will be subjected to DNA test, police said Wednesday.

“Magagawan pa po ng paraan kasi kumuha na po tayo ng mga DNA samples para ipacheck natin sa tamang ahensya kasi ang nakuha natin diyan ‘yung ulo, mga limbs nung mga putol na bahagi ng katawan ng diumano ay lady bomber,” Brig. Gen. Manuel Abu, chief of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police, said over Teleradyo when sought for comment on identifying the suicide bomber being tagged in the Jolo bombings.

(This can still be done. We managed to recover the head, limbs and some body parts of the lady bomber. We already collected DNA samples to have agencies check on it.)

Similar to military’s reports, Abu said police probers are looking into the possibility that another suicide bomber for the other Jolo blast based on closed circuit television footage.

“Ang tinitingnan pong anggulo ng ating mga investigators is itong dalawang pagsabog ay kagagawan ng mga suicide bombers.Sa pangalawang pagsabog base po doon sa nireview namin na CCTV kagagawan po ng isang babae,” the police official said.

(Investigators are looking into suicide bombers as those behind the two explosions. The second explosion, based on CCTV, is caused by a lady bomber.)

Authorities said the two explosions that left 15 people dead and 75 individuals wounded in Jolo, Sulu province caused by two suicide bombers who were supposedly linked to the Islamic State.

The first explosion occurred inside an eatery at Barangay Walledd City before noon. The second blast occurred an hour later at Goteckleng Building.
