Woman arrested for scam targeting police applicants in Cagayan
TUGUEGARAO CITY-Authorities arrested a 21-year-old woman for allegedly collecting P10,000 each from applicants for police positions in Cagayan province.
Capt. Joel Labasan, police chief of Buguey, said Arlene Malazzab was promising admission in the Philippine National Police (PNP) to those who want to become policemen or officers in exchange for P10,000 from each victim.
Malazzab, resident of the village of Paddaya Weste in Buguey, would tell victims she had strong connections in the PNP who could facilitate victims’ entry into the police force, according to investigators.
Acting on a tip, policemen arrested Malazzab during an entrapment operation.
Brig. Gen. Crizaldo Nieves, Cagayan Valley regional police director, said the police service application is free of charge and all that applicants would have to do was go to the regional recruitment and selection service office.
Malazzab faces robbery-extortion complaints at the prosecutor’s office.
