MANILA, Philippines — A huge part of Luzon including Metro Manila would continue to experience rains until Friday due to the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” which is intensified by the low pressure area (LPA) east of the country.

The weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Monday afternoon showed that rains on the eastern portion of Luzon, namely parts of Southern Luzon and Cagayan Valley, would be brought by the LPA.

The LPA was last seen 100 kilometers east southeast of Casiguran in Aurora.

Meanwhile, the western parts of Luzon, from Central Luzon to Metro Manila down to Southern Luzon would be affected by monsoon rains.  The rest of Luzon on the other hand may see a gradual improvement of weather conditions.

“Bukas inaasahan naman natin na magkakaroon ng gradual improvement ng weather sa Palawan at Bicol Region, pero maulap pa rin at may pag-ulan sa natitirang bahagi ng Luzon kasama ng Metro Manila,” senior weather specialist Chris Perez said.

(Tomorrow we are expecting a gradual improvement of the weather in Palawan and Bicol Region, but the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila would still see a cloudy skies and rains.)

“So ‘yong mga pag-ulan po anytime during the day or during the night ay pwedeng mangyari,” he added.

(The rains may occur anytime during the day or during the night.)

Temperatures in Luzon are expected to taper down due to the cloudy and rainy weather, only playing around 24 to 31 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, 25 to 30 degrees in normally-hot Tuguegarao, and 24 to 29 degrees in Laoag.

For Visayas and Mindanao, generally fair weather may be expected, although occasional thunderstorms and rain showers may still occur.

Visayan cities of Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban will experience temperatures within 24 to 32 degrees Celsius, while in Davao and Zamboanga, it may peak to 33 degrees during daytime.

No gale warning has been raised as of now despite the LPA’s proximity to Luzon’s eastern landmass, but sea conditions in Luzon and Visayas’ eastern seas, along with the extreme northern Luzon waters, would be moderate to rough.
