MANILA, Philippines — The “uniform” 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew in Metro Manila will be effective starting Wednesday night except for three cities that have yet to amend their curfew hours.

According to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, the local governments of Manila, Muntinlupa, and Pasig have agreed to align their respective curfew ordinances to the agreed 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. period within the week.

“Meron pong hindi masasakop nitong bagong curfew hours mamayang gabi. Ito po ang Manila, Muntilupa at Pasig dahil kinakailangan po nilang amiyendahan ‘yung kanilang ordinansa na ang nagsasabi ay 10 pm,” Roque said in an update aired over state-run PTV.

“Pero nagcommit naman po ang mga mayor at alkalde ng Maynila, Muntinlupa at Pasig na gagawin din nilang 8 (p.m.) to 5 (a.m.) din ang curfew nila,” he added.

Metro Manila, which remains to be the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in the Philippines, eased into general community quarantine (GCQ) Wednesday after a two-week modified lockdown to give health workers a “timeout” and to prevent the collapse of the country’s healthcare system.

As of Tuesday, there are 169,213 total COVID-19 cases nationwide, including 112,861 recoveries and 2,687 deaths.

More than half or 94,842 cases were recorded from Metro Manila.
