A torrid battle for the Boys 14 crown is shaping up between Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI) and Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) A in the14th Aboitiz Football Cup which resumed yesterday at the Aboitiz Sportsfield in Subangdaku Mandaue City.
DBTC A is nipping at the heels of MTI which will be hard-pressed to defend the top spot as the Boys 14 is being played in a league-type format which means that the team with the most number of wins takes home the title.
Both teams have 12 points and a goal difference of 12 points. However, MTI took the top spot after tallying 16 goals in five games. DBTC A, on the other hand, has 14 goals in four games.
MTI though has lost one of its five matches while DBTC A has yet to drop a game. MTI routed Blessed John, 4-1, yesterday while DBTC A blanked sister-school DBTC B, 4-0.
Saint Augustine International School (SAIS) FC finally barged into the win column with a default victory against Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC).
Another default, this time against Colegio de la Inmaculada – Mandaue (CIC-M) in the Boys 12, handed SAIS FC another win on a silver platter.
The category was marked by defaults as Centre for International Education (CIE) also won against Springdale while both SHS-AdC and Cebu Eastern College (CEC) did not show up for their match.
The only match played in the category was between Mactan Air Base Elementary School (MABES) and DBTC 1 which the latter won, 11-0.
