The city-funded Ospital ng Tondo was temporarily closed on Friday after 32 health-care workers were infected with the new coronavirus, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced.

The medical facility will be closed for 14 days or until Aug. 28, for disinfection and to provide a break for its front-liners.

“[This is] to allow our doctors and nurses to relax and to ease their burden and to give them time to recover,” Domagoso said, adding that he received the request for the temporary shutdown from Ospital ng Tondo director Myrna Lacson-Paloma. —Nikka G. Valenzuela
