Pasig residents to get free testing today

Around 300 Pasig residents are expected to get free testing for the coronavirus on Friday.

Mayor Vico Sotto said residents who had made reservations shall be accommodated for enhanced chemiluminescence immunoassay (Eclia) testing, a type of test that detects antibodies in blood samples, at Tanghalang Pasigueño from 9 to 11 a.m.

According to the The Medical City, Eclia testing is considered more reliable than rapid tests, as it has 100 percent sensitivity and specificity.

Sotto earlier stressed that walk-ins or those who had no reservations would not be allowed to take the test. If the tests prove to be orderly, he added, the project may be repeated in the coming days—but it will be discontinued if the residents fail to practice social distancing at the venue.

The mayor noted, however, that there were 118 beds still available at the city’s centralized quarantine.

As of Tuesday night, Pasig has 2,486 confirmed Covid-19 cases, of which 1,388 are active, with 961 recoveries and 137 deaths. —Jodee A. Agoncillo
