The San Juan City government formally opened on Thursday temporary living quarters for medical front-liners, while releasing financial assistance to health workers and families of coronavirus patients.
Several classrooms at San Juan Elementary School have been converted into living quarters that can accommodate around 100 front-liners working at nearby San Juan Medical Center (SJMC).
Aside from beddings, toilets, and bathrooms, they are also provided with three meals a day, a mess hall and a kitchen, and free WiFi connection.
“We treat them as heroes during this fight against COVID-19. We feel their concern for their families. They should not be burdened by the thought of transmitting the virus to their loved ones, should they themselves … contract the virus at work,” said Mayor Francis Zamora.
Also on Thursday, Zamora turned over financial incentives worth P5,000 each to medical front-liners from the SJMC, the City Health Office, and as well as medical personnel of the city police, fire department, barangay governments involved in the COVID-19 response. Nonmedical frontliners, or those involved in social services and the maintenance of peace and order, as well as families of hospitalized coronavirus patients, will receive P3,000 each. —Jodee A.
