Baguio cable car network proposed

BAGUIO CITY, Benguet, Philippines — An Austrian transportation developer has proposed to build a cable car system here that is similar to what it is developing in Cebu City.

Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmBH offered to build an aerial rope transit network, which can ferry passengers that 200 jeepneys can carry in an hour.

The company is eyeing two cable car lines that serve border towns in Benguet province. One proposed line connects Benguet capital town La Trinidad, which hosts vegetable trading posts, and Barangay Kias, where the Philippine Military Academy is located.

A second line can link heavily populated Quezon Hill and Luneta Hill. Aside from reducing pollution, company officials said a cable car system would vastly reduce the need for other public utility vehicles as well as cars that clog Baguio streets.
