MANILA, Philippines — The cause of death of Senior Citizens Rep. Francisco Datol Jr., who passed away on Monday, has been confirmed to be COVID-19, according to his presumptive successor.

Rodolfo Ordanes, the second nominee of Senior Citizens party list and Datol’s next in line, on Tuesday informed the group’s constituents of the 71-year-old lawmaker’s demise.

“It is with deep sadness that we inform our constituents, the senior citizens and retirees nationwide, that Rep. Francisco G. Datol Jr. has died because of acute respiratory distress due to COVID-19 on Aug. 10,” Ordanes said.
