‘Seaweed king’ buried

CEBU CITY—Businessman Benson Dakay, known as “seaweed king” for his pioneering ventures in seaweeds, was buried yesterday, two weeks after he died of kidney cancer in the United States last Jan. 5.

At least 1,000 people attended the funeral of Dakay at the Cebu Memorial Park in Barangay Banilad after Mass at the Carmelites Church about 9 a.m.

Dakay, 56, died on Jan. 5 at the Kindred Hospital Brea in Los Angeles, more than two months after he fell into a coma after a trip from Houston on Oct. 25.
