Northern Samar town’s youth council buys computer sets, printer for students

TACLOBAN CITY –– The youth council in Lavezares town, Northern Samar has bought at least two computer sets and a printer that students can use for free while face-to-face classes are suspended due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Proculo Adriatico, Jr., the chairman of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Libas, said they have many constituents who couldn’t afford to buy gadgets like mobile phones and laptops needed for blended learning.
The two computer sets were installed at their barangay hall’s e-library.
Those who want to use the units have to coordinate with the village.
Adriatico said the use of computers in the barangay would be strictly for educational purposes only.
To sustain the program, he said they requested students, who want to print their assignments, to bring and donate used bottles.
“We would sell these used bottles and use the funds to buy bond paper needed for the printing,” the 22-year old SK leader said.
Libas is the biggest among Lavezares’ 26 barangays with a population of more than 3,000, who depend on fishing and farming as their source of income.
Rose Ann Morado, 19, was happy that their SK leaders under Adriatico came up with a program for the youth.
“This is a big help for us, especially during this time of the pandemic. Before, we had to go to an internet shop to do our assignments. Now, we can do our school work at our e-library free of charge,” the second-year education student said.
Morado said she and her three siblings would avail of the program to help their family save money.
The village has only one internet shop, which charges P15 for the use of a computer per hour.
