MANILA, Philippines — The Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital’s (JJASGH) maternity ward in the City of Manila has temporarily stopped admitting expectant mothers after it exceeded its bed capacity, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced on Monday.
Domagoso made the announcement on ABS-CBN News Channel. He said that the current occupancy rate at the hospital for pregnant women is already at 233 percent.
“The other day, we closed our acceptance ‘yung mga manganganak sa Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital (JJASGH) kasi we have reached the 233 percent of our load capacity para sa mga pregnant women,” Moreno said in the interview.

“That day alone, we have six pending mothers who need to be ipa-Cesarean. Kailangan operahan. So what we did, para hindi mabulunan nang husto ang aming mga doktor and ma-expose sila sa ano pa mang kapahamakan, in-augment namin sa adjacent hospital which is Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital,” the mayor also said.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the JJASGH said it temporarily closed its facilities for women set to deliver babies starting 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The hospital management advised pregnant women to proceed to other hospitals following this development.
“Maghintay po ng anunsiyo kung kailan magbubukas muli ang JJASGH. Maraming salamat po sa inyong pang-unawa,” the hospital management said in the post.
(Please await further announcement on when the JJASGH will again accept pregnant women for delivery of their children. Thank you for your understanding.)
