Bong Go urges PSC to give allowances of national athletes, coaches on time
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) should release the allowances of national athletes and coaches on time to help them cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go said in a statement issued on Saturday.
Go made the remark in reaction to reports he had received that the allowances of athletes and coaches for the months of June and July had been delayed.
“It’s already August. I’m calling the attention of the PSC to look into these complaints and give what should be given,” Go said, partly in Filipino.
“We are in the middle of a pandemic and everyone is having difficulty. Our athletes and coaches who bring honor to our country are no exception,” he added. “I know you are also having difficulties with your funding because of the low remittances of Pagcor [Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.]. Just recently, the monthly allowances were reduced. I hope they won’t be delayed.”
Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Sports, said, however, that he was confident that the PSC could respond to the issue.
