Former Manila mayor Estrada, other personalities mourn passing of ex-mayor Lim

MANILA, Philippines — Former Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and other personalities are mourning the passing of former Manila mayor and senator Alfredo Lim.

“Ako po ay nalulungkot sa pagpanaw ng isang magiting na Mayor ng Maynila, Mayor Alfredo Lim. Magkatungali man kami sa pulitika, alam ko na iisa lang ang aming hangarin, ang mabigyan ng magandang buhay ang mahihirap nating mga kababayan lalo na ang Masang Manilenyo,” Estrada, who served as mayor of the capital city in 2013, said in a Facebook post.

(I am deeply saddened with the passing of Manila mayor Alfredo Lim. We may have been opponents in politics but we only have one wish. To give our poor countrymen a good life, especially the Manilenyos.)

“Hinding-hindi ka malilimutan ng Maynila. Rest In Peace, Mayor Lim!” he added.

(Manila will never forget you. Rest in Peace Mayor Lim!)

Ron Munsayac, chief public information officer of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) political party, also sent his deepest condolences to Lim’s family.

“The @PDPLABAN offers our deepest condolences to the family of our beloved party mate Mayor Alfredo Lim. He was the ultimate public servant serving as law-enforcer, lawmaker, and local chief executive. The PH’s Dirty Harry legacy of public service will never be forgotten,” Munsayac wrote on Twitter.

Lim joined the PDP-Laban in 2018.

Museo Pambata’s official Facebook page also paid respects to Lim.

“We are deeply saddened of the news that one of our founders, Mayor Alfredo ‘Fred’ Lim passed away today at the age of 90. Thank you Mayor Lim! For being an advocate and a supporter of Museo Pambata. We will miss you!” read the post.

Lim died on Saturday afternoon but no details were given on the cause of his death.
