Bukidnon governor, wife test negative for virus

MALAYBALAY CITY——-Bukidnon Governor Jose Maria Zubiri and his wife tested negative for SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes (COVID-19), his son, Sen. Miguel Zubiri said.

In a post on social media, Sen. Zubiri said he had his parents, who are both senior citizens, tested for the virus after an employee at the Bukidnon provincial capitol was reportedly infected on Thursday.

However, the Department of Health (DOH), on Friday, corrected the report, saying the employee has no COVID-19 infection.

The female employee is a close-in staff of the governor, said the senator, who himself tested positive for the virus twice.

“Thank God the two of them tested negative,” Sen. Zubiri said, referring to his parents’ test results.

Gov. Zubiri has ordered a suspension of work in the provincial capitol beginning Thursday afternoon, and all offices were decontaminated as part of precautionary measures.

Work is set to resume on Monday, August 10. The testing of the rest of the 3,682 employees of the provincial government will also continue next week, said provincial administrator Jay Albarece.

As of Aug. 7, the DOH has tallied a total of 102 COVID-19 cases in Bukidnon. Of the cases, 98 are returning residents.
