Ex-Manila mayor Lim confined to hospital after contracting coronavirus

MANILA, Philippines — Former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim is currently confined to a hospital after being infected with the new coronavirus disease, his former chief of staff Ric de Guzman said Friday.

In a statement, de Guzman, who is also a former Manila councilor, asked the public to pray for the fast recovery of Lim. The name of the hospital was not mentioned.

“Please give us some moments of privacy as we focus on Mayor Lim’s swift recovery from his current illness. We thank all those who have expressed concern and offered prayers for him and us during these trying times. Please continue praying for him as we all do,” he said.

De Guzman also noted that Lim is “very much alive” and “making good progress.”

Lim was elected as Manila mayor in 1992 and was reelected in 1995.

The former mayor was also a former chief of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) from 2000 to 2001. He also became a senator in 2004. [ac]
