MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and most parts of the country are expected to have a wet, rainy weekend due to the southwest monsoon or “habagat” and a low pressure area (LPA) off Quezon and Catanduanes, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Ang southwest monsoon o habagat ay patuloy na magdadala ng pag-ulan sa Southern Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao kaya’t patuloy na makakaranas ng makulimlim na panahon, ulan at pagkidlat,” Pagasa weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said in a 4 a.m. weather update on Friday.

“Posibleng makaranas pa rin tayo ng mga pag-ulan until Sunday, pero pagdating ng Monday inaasahan natin na improving weather na tayo,”  Bulqueron added, referring to the weather forecast in Metro Manila.

The LPA was last spotted 325 northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 520 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon.

Based on Pagasa’s weather forecast, Baguio City may experience rains on Sunday and Monday due to the trough or extension of the LPA.

Legazpi City is likewise expected to experience rains until Sunday but will have have improved weather condition on Monday.

Bulquerin said Cebu may experience rain showers until Saturday and may have improved conditions by Sunday or Monday.

Meanwhile, good weather is forecast in Davao in the next three days.

This Friday, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail nationwide due to the trough of the LPA,  “habagat”, and localized thunderstorms.
