3 quakes hit Mt. Province, Antique, Surigao del Sur–Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines — Three consecutive earthquakes were recorded in Mountain Province, Antique, and Surigao Del Sur on Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said a magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded nine kilometers southeast of Sabangan, Mountain Province at 6:58 a.m.

It had a depth of focus of 16 kilometers. There have been no reported intensities from the quake.

Meanwhile, another tremor with a magnitude of 4.6 was also registered 44 kms. northwest of Patnongon, Antique at 8:28 a.m. This one had a depth of 34 kms.

Instrumental intensities were reported in the following areas: Intensity III in Malinao, Aklan; Intensity II in Sebaste and Valderrama, Antique, and; Intensity I in  Malay, Aklan and Jamindan, Capiz.

At 9:30 a.m., a magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck 12 kms. southwest of Bayabas, Surigao del Sur.

The quake had a depth of four kilometers but there have been no reported intensities.

According to Phivolcs, all the quakes were of tectonic origin and no aftershocks and damages were expected from these tremors.
