5.8 magnitude quake strikes Surigao del Sur
MANILA, Philippines — A 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck Bayabas, Surigao del Sur early morning Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake hit 21 kilometers southeast of Bayabas, Surigao del Sur, at 1:32 a.m.
It had a depth of 40 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.
Intensity IV was registered over Bayabas, Bislig City, Cagwait, Hinatuan, and Tandag City in Surigao del Sur; and Butuan City.
Meanwhile, Intensity III was recorded over Surigao City in Surigao del Norte; cities Gingoog, Magsaysay, and Medina in Misamis Oriental.

No damage is expected from the temblor, Phivolcs said, but aftershocks may occur.
