CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Construction of the second phase of a new railway leading to the Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga has been set in motion with the signing on Saturday (Aug. 1) of two of five project contracts.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) led the virtual signing of the contracts for Packages N-04 and N-05 of the Philippine National Railway Clark Phase 2 which involves a 53-kilometer rail span from the City of Malolos in Bulacan to the Clark Freeport.
The first phase of the project which connects to Caloocan City is now 30 percent complete, according to the DOTr.
Package N-04 covers the civil engineering and building works for 6.3 kilometers of the main line and 1.6 kilometers of the depot’s access line, with an underground station serving the CRK.
Package N-05 undertakes civil engineering works for the 33-hectare Clark Railway Depot. This project includes the construction of the Operations Control Center, a stabling yard, workshops, and a training center in Mabalacat City, also in Pampanga.
The Malolos-Clark line will ferry passengers to CRK once it becomes operational in 2022, DOTr said.
