MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area west of Iba, Zambales may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the next hours this Thursday, as the southwest monsoon or Habagat is forecast to bring rains in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, according to the state weather bureau.

The LPA was last spotted 50 kilometers west of Iba town, according to the 4 a.m. weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.

“Mababa pa rin ang tsansa na maging bagyo ngunit posible din na lumabas na ng ating PAR sa mga susunod na oras. Paglabas niya ng PAR, pwede siyang mag-develop into a tropical depression pero malaki ang tsansa na nasa labas na ng PAR,” Pagasa weather specialist Samuel Duran said.

(There is still a low chance for the LPA to develop into a storm but it may exit PAR in the next hours. When it leaves PAR, it might develop into a tropical depression but there is a high chance that it is already out of PAR by that time.)

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa will experience monsoon rains.

“Ang pinagkaiba po nyan, kapag mayroon na tayong monsoon rains ay halos maghapon na ang pag-ulan and then ‘yung intensity nyan is from light to moderate to heavy,” said Duran.

He explained that during monsoon rains, heavy downpour normally occurs in the evening and midnight. The rains will then temporarily stop in the morning and noon, and will again occur in the afternoon.

The LPA and the southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, Davao Region and the rest of Luzon.

The rest of the country will meanwhile have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon, according to Pagasa’s bulletin.
