Calbayog jailbreak: 1 inmate dead, 1 wounded, 1 captured, 5 at large
TACLOBAN CITY—An inmate was killed and another was wounded during a jailbreak in Calbayog City past 2 p.m. on Monday (July 27).
Edwin Abria suffered a fatal gunshot wound after prison guards opened fire at the Calbayog City District Jail in Tomalon State at the village of Gadgaran.
Another inmate, Juvy Openiano, was wounded and being treated at the Calbayog District Hospital.
Inmate Edar Balantino was captured in one of the houses across the jail being managed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Five other inmates—Milo Ligason, Eron Tomboc, Edgar Elbano, Eden Albano, and Raul Dorojo—remain at large.
A manhunt has been launched by the city police, BJMP and the police’s 802nd Special Action Company.

Sam Adarino, officer-in-charge of the Calbayog police station, said the eight inmates attacked two jail guards, who were connecting a water hose from the Calbayog Water District water tanker to the jail’s water storage. After the attack, the inmates forcibly opened the jail gates.
