MANILA, Philippines — Senators Nancy Binay and Pia Cayetano on Monday chose to dress down in time for President Rodrigo Duterte’s fifth State of the Nation Address (Sona).
On the Senate’s second regular session in the 18th Congress, Binay resurrected a 2015 Randy Ortiz creation — a piña cocoon-ruffled top that was paired with black slacks.
Meanwhile, Cayetano chose to wear a creation by noted fashion designer Michael Leyva, dark blue printed cowl-necked top coordinated with navy blue slacks. She accentuated her attire with a matching dark blue cloth face mask of the same print.
In an Instagram post, Cayetano said acknowledged Leyva’s creation which made use of the “dagmay,” an indigenous fabric by the Mandaya tribe.
Similarly, Cayetano and Binay’s colleagues, Grace Poe and Risa Hontiveros, also showed at the opening of the Senate session in modest outfits, as both of them chose to wear white.
