TACLOBAN CITY — Eastern Visayas has recorded 32 fresh cases of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Friday, bringing the total number of patients in the region to 757.
Of the 32 new cases, 29 are locally stranded individuals (LSIs) while three were overseas workers who returned from Saudi Arabia.
The town of Merida in Leyte registered its first five COVID-19 cases, said Dr. Evania Galleta, municipal health officer.
According to Galleta, all of the cases involved construction workers who arrived in Merida from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on July 14.
She stressed that there was nothing to worry about since the infected individuals were immediately isolated upon their return to the town.
“They are all asymptomatic,” Galleta said.
Aside from Merida town, the other areas in Leyte that registered new COVID-19 cases, are the towns of Leyte, Mahaplag, Kananga, Tacloban City, Baybay City, Dulag, and Isabel.
In Southern Leyte, the new cases are from Maasin City, Pintuyan, and St. Bernard, while the fresh cases in Samar are from Paranas, Tarangnan, Motiong, and Catbalogan City.
