25 new COVID-19 cases push Davao Region past 1,000-mark

DIGOS CITY—The Davao Region saw its COVID-19 cases zoom past 1,000 on Wednesday (July 22).

According to a Department of Health (DOH) report, 25 new cases were reported on Wednesday which brought the region’s COVID-19 tally to 1,018.

The growing list of cases could turn the region into the country’s next coronavirus hot spot.

Among the new cases, 10 are from Davao City, four from Davao del Norte, four from Davao Oriental, four from Davao del Sur and three from Davao Occidental.

DOH-accredited laboratories in the region tested a total of 409 samples on Wednesday and 25 returned with positive results for coronavirus infection.

Of the 25 new cases, 17 are returnees to their hometowns in the region.

Amid the rise in cases, the DOH also recorded six recoveries on Wednesday, bringing to 558 the number of patients who defeated the disease.

Of the six recoveries, four are from Davao City, and one each from Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental.

Health officials also announced that there are 417 active COVID-19 cases in the region as of July 22. Of these, 335 patients displayed no symptoms, 72 are mild cases, seven severe and three are in critical condition.
