MANILA, Philippines — At least three Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) officials have supposedly resigned from their posts out of disgust with widespread corruption issues within the agency.

According to a source, the corruption allegations were revealed during an online meeting among PhilHealth officials on early Thursday evening.

“Earlier this evening, sa Zoom meeting ng PhilHealth, nagkabistuhan ng corruption, nagkasigawan!  As of now 3 officers resigned because of disgust,” the source said.

One of the officials who supposedly notified PhilHealth of his resignation was an anti-fraud officer, who claimed to have advocated for a wide-scale investigation of corruption accusations affecting the government-controlled corporation.

The official also noted that his salary has not been given on time since he investigated PhilHealth officers allegedly involved in corruption.

PhilHealth has been rocked with various corruption issues in the past, including a scandal that broke apart last June 2019 where some officials supposedly created a scheme where patients continue to receive payoffs for dialysis treatment even if they are already dead.

Then later that month, Health Secretary Francisco Duque went under fire after it was revealed that a PhilHealth provincial office in Pangasinan was allowed to rent land belonging to his family.
