MANILA, Philippines — An employee of the House of Representatives who recently tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019  (COVID-19) has died, House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales confirmed Thursday.

Montales said the employee, who was assigned at the Bills & Index Service office of the lower chamber, passed away on Thursday morning.

The 52-year old employee had been working from home since June 18, but went to their office last June 29 to submit some documents, Montales bared.

“He was hospitalized last July 17 after experiencing some symptoms. On July 20, he tested positive for COVID-19,” Montales said in a statement.

Three House of Representatives employees have so far succumbed to COVID-19.

As of posting, there are 18 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the lower chamber. 

Health protocols are being implemented at the House such as holding of online or hybrid hearings to ensure that social distancing is being practiced.
