Village chief, 9 others nabbed over illegal cockfight in Nueva Ecija

JAEN, Nueva Ecija –– Police arrested a 63-year-old village chair and nine other people after they were caught during an illegal cockfight here on Sunday.

Police Major Baltazar Corpuz, this town’s police chief, identified the village chief as Leovigildo Agapito of Barangay Calabasa.

Corpuz said the illegal gambling activity, known locally as bularit, was done inside Agapito’s compound.

The other suspects were identified as Zaldy Gomez, Tomas de Belen, Conrado Paynor, Raymond Abellon, Cesario Fermin, Cornelio Padilla, Felipe Pacua, Onofre Cunan and Oliver Yambot.

Corpuz said the operation was carried out after they were tipped off about the illegal activity.

At least 60 other people managed to elude arrest by running to a nearby farm.
