DIGOS CITY –– A 46-year-old man, who worked at a barbecue house in Banilad, Cebu City, but who arrived here last week to settle some property rights, is the 15th coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case here, city officials said.

The man and his common-law-wife arrived at the Davao City International Airport at 12:30 p.m. on July 14 and took a taxi to Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT), where they rode a bus bound for this city.

At 3 p.m., the couple arrived at the Digos City Bus Terminal in Barangay Aplaya, where health workers interviewed them before they were sent home for the 14-day quarantine.

Since Cebu has been one of the places noted for sustained community transmission of COVID-19, they were tested using the Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) on July 15.

The man turned positive for IgG antibodies, so both couple were subjected to RT-PCR testing the following day, July 16.

On July 19, the man’s RT-PCR results came out positive for COVID-19, making him the 15th COVID-19 case here.

The asymptomatic patient has been admitted at the COVID-19 isolation unit of the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital.

Those who had been in close contact with the man have been identified, including the wife, who tested negative both for the anti-bodies and the RT-PCR tests.

Of the 15 COVID-19 cases in Digos City, only three active cases have been admitted in the city’s isolation facilities, while the rest have recovered.

As of July 19, four cases suspected for COVID-19 were still awaiting their RT-PCR results, 37 were under strict home quarantine and 27 were quarantined at the Digos City Isolation Center in Barangay Igpit.
