Elderly couple married for 61 years survive COVID-19 together
A 91-year-old man and his 88-year-old wife have finally recovered from COVID-19 after spending three weeks in a hospital in Leicester, England.
Michael and Gillian England, who have been married for 61 years, were discharged on July 17, as per Leicester’s Hospitals post on Facebook on July 18.
During their time in the medical center, a staff member noted that Michael would get dressed every morning before receiving treatment. He would then ask to see Gillian whenever he needed to walk for exercise.
Meanwhile, Gillian would be “waiting in earnest” for her husband before they enjoy a tea together. The couple continued to take their meals and drink tea with one another throughout their journey to recovery.

“While I’ve been in hospital I’ve not really missed anything because Gillian is here and I have been able to see her every day,” Michael said.

“Being discharged together, on the same day is even more special as we have been on our recovery journey together,” he added.
He also expressed his gratitude for the medical staff, saying, “They have shown such compassion to myself and Gillian in so many ways and we have felt that kindness.”
The couple shares three sons together, as per report, and were picked up by one named Russel when they were finally allowed to leave the medical center. Ryan Arcadio/JB
