CITY OF MALOLOS–The office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) was placed on lockdown since Tuesday (July 14) after eight of its detainees tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Dr. Jocelyn Gomez, Bulacan public health officer, said the infected detainees were not showing symptoms and stay in their cells that had been already converted into a quarantine facility.

Retired police Col. Marcos Rivero, Bulacan provincial warden, said jail officials had already stopped accepting detainees, who had been arrested for illegal drugs, as a precaution.

The Bulacan Provincial Jail, which has more than 3,000 inmates, remained coronavirus-free.
