Probers still in the dark on Samar town mayor’s ambusher

TACLOBAN CITY –– Police investigators have yet to identify the lone perpetrator in the ambush of a town mayor in Samar last Monday.

Lt. Col. Marty Munoz of the Samar provincial police office said they were still gathering information as well as other evidence about the shooting of Mayor Vicente Limpiado, Jr. of Tagapul-an town.

Limpiado was on his way out of his farm in Barangay Sogod at 8:50 a.m. last Monday when the perpetrator appeared and fired at him several times.

The mayor was able to run away but was hit on his back.

Munoz said Limpiado was brought to a hospital in Catbalogan City for treatment and is now recuperating.

The suspect, who used a still unidentified firearm, managed to escape.

“We cannot give any possible motives yet as investigation is still ongoing,” Munoz said.

In 2019, Limpiado was elected mayor of Tagapul-an, a fifth-class municipality in Samar with a population of more than 9,000.
