LEGAZPI CITY –– The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded 27 volcanic earthquakes in Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon province in the past 24-hour observation period.
In its 8 a.m. bulletin, Phivolcs said its instruments also showed weak and shallow hydrothermal or magmatic gas activity within the edifice.
White steam-laden plumes were seen emitted from the lower southeast vent.
Phivolcs said these parameters indicate that volcanic processes were underway beneath the edifice that may be caused by deep-seated degassing or hydrothermal activity or magmatic intrusion.
On Monday, July 13, Phivolcs also recorded 33 quakes around Bulusan.
On July 6, Phivolcs raised Bulusan’s alert level to 1, which signals an abnormal status, following the increase in volcanic activities.
