MRT 3 operations back to normal with 15 trains

/ 04:03 AM July 15, 2020

Operations are back to normal at the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3, a day after it reopened following a six-day shutdown due to the growing number of personnel who tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).As of Tuesday afternoon, a total of 15 trains, including one Dalian train set, were running the mainline as the MRT 3 management also increased the number of buses for its bus augmentation program. Nearly 300 MRT 3 employees tested positive for COVID-19 during a mass testing conducted last week.

Although most of them were workers at the underground depot near the North Avenue station who had no contact with the public, 15 ticket sellers also tested positive. This prompted the MRT 3 management to release their work schedule and assigned station so that riders who were exposed to them could take precautions.

Since reopening on Monday, MRT 3 officials have implemented new measures to protect against another outbreak at the metro’s busiest railway system. Passengers must fill out health declaration forms while they are prohibited from talking or answering their cell phones inside the trains.

All station personnel, security guards and janitors are also required to wear full-body personal protective equipment as an added measure against the virus. INQ
