The city government of Malabon has shortened its curfew hours, citing the looser general community quarantine (GCQ) currently in place in Metro Manila, even as it warned residents that the threat of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) remains.
Under City Ordinance No. 13-2020 signed on June 22 and now in effect, curfew hours have been cut from the earlier 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Exemption
Those exempted from the ordinance are residents going to and coming from work at night or within curfew hours, provided that they present proof of employment.
Public transport services, peace and order personnel of the city government, and emergency cases as determined by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases are also exempted from the curfew.Threat continues
“Although the [quarantine] status is changed from ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) to GCQ, the threat of COVID-19 continues to exist and still requires measures from both the local and national government,” the ordinance read.
Violators will be made to pay a fine of P1,000 on the first offense, P2,000 on the second offense, and P5,000 on the third and subsequent offenses.
As of Thursday afternoon, the city health department recorded 700 COVID-19 cases in Malabon, with 67 fatalities and 297 recoveries.
