According to the 2016 National Disability Prevalence Survey recently released by the Philippine Statistics Authority, 12 percent of individuals aged 15 and older had “severe disability,” with 57 percent having vision problems, 49 percent having back pains, 40 percent having arthritis, 36 percent having hypertension and 31 percent having sleep problems.
The most affected functions in their daily lives were mobility (41 percent), seeing (23 percent), hearing (14 percent), and self-care or looking after their own health (10 percent). —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
