Man, alleged NPA member and wanted for rape, surrenders in Masbate town
LEGAZPI CITY—A man tagged by police as a member of the guerrilla group New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to authorities in the town of Mobo, Masbate province on Thursday when it was discovered he also was wanted for a rape case.
Police said Alex Macadat, 22, resident of Bagacay village in Mobo, turned himself in to Mobo police with the help of village officials.
Police said he was wanted for a rape case and was subject of an arrest warrant issued by a court in Masbate City on Nov. 22, 2018.
The surrender came as government forces clashed with communist rebels in Milagros, also a town in Masbate, on the same day.
Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said police and Army soldiers were on patrol when they encountered at least 10 NPA guerrillas at the village of Matagbac.
There were no casualties in the clash, but the rebels left behind two generator sets, three pump boats and food, Calubaquib said.
