Aquino asked to give Marcos ‘hero’s burial’

MANILA, Philippines—A majority of lawmakers led by Sorsogon Representative Salvador Escudero have signed a resolution appealing to President Benigno Aquino III to give the late ousted dictator Ferdinand Marcos a hero’s burial.

The resolution, which was signed by 190 House members on Monday night, seeks to allow Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani.

Escudero said more lawmakers out of the 284-member chamber are expected to sign the resolution.

Escudero served as agriculture minister of Marcos and remained a loyalist after his ouster in 1986.

Among the signatories were Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Marcos died in exile at age 72 in September 1989. His remains have been on display at a museum in his hometown in Batac, Ilocos Norte.
