Retired post office employee survives shooting in Quezon

LUCENA CITY –– A 63-year-old man survived a shooting incident in Sariaya town in Quezon province early Friday.

Lieutenant William Angway Jr., Sariaya police chief, identified the victim as Manuel Rama, a retired employee of the Philippine Postal Corporation.

A police report said two still unidentified men both wearing face masks arrived at the “sari-sari” store owned by Rama in Barangay Canda at 7 a.m.

Police said Rama saw one of the suspects draw a short handgun. He immediately grabbed the firearm but during the scuffle, he fell on the ground. The gunman fired two shots at the victim and fled after the shooting.

Rama was taken to Lucena United Doctors Hospital and Medical Center in Lucena City where he received treatment.

Investigators found two empty shells from a caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.

The initial investigation showed that land dispute could be the motive behind the frustrated killing.
