DepEd mulling to extend enrollment in public schools to July 15

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education is considering extending the enrollment period until July 15 for public schools for the upcoming school year.

“Last day na ngayon pero kino-consider namin na magkaroon ng extension. Para ito sa public schools kasi sa private schools meron silang autonomy,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in an interview with dzBB on Tuesday.

(It’s the last day today but we are considering an extension. This is for public schools because private schools have their own autonomy.)

“Para sa amin sa public sector, kino-consider namin magkaroon ng extension probably up to July 15 sa mga bata na gusto mag-enroll sa public schools,” she added.

(For public schools, we are considering an extension of probably up to July 15 of those who want to enroll.)

As of 8 a.m. on June 30, DepEd has already accounted for a total of 15,907,786 enrollees from private and public schools and state and local universities and colleges offering senior high school education.

Of this number, 15,222,315 are enrollees from public schools.
