LOOK: Endangered marine turtles released in Catanduanes

MANILA, Philippines — Fifty nine endangered green sea turtle hatchlings and a hawksbill sea turtle were recently released in the waters of  Palumbanes Island in Caramoran, Catanduanes, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources said onThursday.

The activity was witnessed and led residents and officials of Barangay Toytoy and personnel from the Catanduanes Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), Caramoran municipal government and Philippine National Police.

Meanwhile, the hawksbill sea turtle, classified as critically endangered, was released in the shore of Barangay Tubli in Caramoran.

Both activities were held on June 17, a day after the observance of the World Sea Turtle Day.
