3 COVID-19 cases land on island town in Quezon

LUCENA CITY—One of Quezon province’s least populated areas, an island in Lamon Bay, now has three COVID-19 cases, according to authorities.

Two new cases were reported on Alabat Island, which is part of Quezon, raising the tally of coronavirus infections on the island, which has a population of at least 42,000, to three, the Quezon public information office (QPIO) said.

In a 5 p.m. report, the QPIO said new COVID-19 patients emerged in Alabat, some 100 kilometers from this city, and another island, Perez, which is also off the Pacific Ocean.

The QPIO also reported 11 new recoveries in Lucena City, which is now under a more relaxed modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) until June 30. The city has a total of 66 COVID-19 cases with 63 recoveries.

The island town of Alabat reported its first COVID-19 case last June 20.

The province has a total of 149 cases but 120 had already recovered and 10 had died. Deducting these, the province has only 19 COVID-19 cases left as of Wednesday.
